Those who make a profit by abusing or exploiting animals will be exposed for who they really are.
George Weston Foods (GWF) is one of the largest consumer products companies in Australia. They are a wholly owned subsidiary of Associated British Foods plc (ABF). The DON-KRC (KR Castlemaine) division produces and distributes fresh and packaged smallgoods products, including strasburg, salami, kabana, frankfurts, ham, bacon, fresh sausages, cheese and other specialty products, and is based in Castlemaine VIC, generating approximately A$800 million in annual sales.
Due to a ruling by the ACCC, GWF were forced to issue a Corrective Notice regarding their misleading use of the term 'bred free range': "George Weston acknowledges that its production practices may be inconsistent with the overall impression of the ordinary consumer created by the words 'bred free range' and may therefore be false or misleading or deceptive in contravention of sections 18 and 29(1)(a) of the Australian Consumer Law."
Previously, KR Castlemaine conducted slaughtering and boning operations at their Castlemaine VIC facility, however in 2007 these operations were ceased, and the facility began purchasing its meat from Big River Pork in SA.
